Practiced all over the world since the 12th century, paper marbling is a method of decorating paper to elevate this once precious material’s reverence. This quick 2 hour workshop gives participants the opportunity to try their hand at marbling multiple sheets of paper to create an assortment of papers, greeting cards and notebook covers. How to make several classic patterns will be shown with the majority of the time being dedicated to participant experimentation using their own marbling set up. Artist and instructor Suzy Kopf will provide materials for and demonstrate a saddle stitch bookbinding method to assemble journals for writing or sketching using their marbled papers for the covers after the workshop.
Marbling is a wet process so students should come prepared with their own aprons or clothing that can be dirtied. Weather dependent, pick up of dried projects will be arranged with Marin Art and Garden Center after the workshop.
